ABOUT TEMVELO

Temvelo is a vehicle of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land & Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) – Mpumalanga Province. As of 2023, Temvelo is driving sustainability orientation focusing mainly on climate change, land management, biodiversity conservation, forest management, agroforest and chemical and waste management. In essence the approach is guided by sustainable development goals where our activities need to respond focusing on the three pillars of sustainable development namely: Economic, Social and Environment. This is further guided by the Implementation of the Provincial Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (MRRP), the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP) as well as The National Development Plan (NDP), which places a responsibility on government to fast track the service delivery and to improve the living conditions of citizens.

Temvelo, in collaboration with the Presidency, Government custodians of Environmental Affairs at both provincial and national levels, have embarked on a Nationwide Environmental Awareness Creation, Capacity Building, and Awards across primarily four provinces namely: Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal, Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape because of their disaster proneness, and all the provinces subsequently. This will culminate in the first-ever National Environment Symposium and Awards (Temvelo) in May 2030. This is an annual event.

The Temvelo Awards recognize individuals, organisations, or initiatives that have made significant contributions to the
preservation, protection, or improvement of the environment. These awards aim to raise awareness about environmental
issues and inspire others to take action.
